Walai Tobilung
Walai Tobilung is a traditional Dusun Tobilung house. Construction first started in 2010 by residents of Kg. Minansad. The aim of this project is to collect and showcase the cultural Tobilung dwelling place. It is also built as a monument that symbolizes the existence of the Tobilung ethnicity in the world especially in North Borneo.
The Tobilung tribe obtained it’s name from it’s tribe leader, Aki Tombolung who relocated from KDM’s birthplace in Nunuk Ragang. There are less than 20,000 estimated ethnic Tobilungs left which are mainly concentrated in part of Kota Marudu and Kota Belud districts respectively. The dwindling numbers is the result of modernization.
Besides providing a traditional place to stay, Walai Tobilung also offer cultural experiences, exposure to nature, as well as an insight to the heritage of the Tobilung tribe.
